This day started out with defrosting the freezer. Apparently when we did this a couple months ago we missed a spot...apparently so did every girl who's lived here for the past five years...

This giant piece of ice fell down when I took out the drawer below the freezer. It was frozen to the wiring, so I had to saw it out.

Aftermath!

My friend Skye was visiting from Idaho, so we set out to have some adventures. First on the agenda: rockclimbing!

Skye is probably the coolest person I know. Here she is rappelling. I'm not quite up to this yet, due to this deathly fear of heights I have, but I'm going to work up to it!

Pretty much, Skye has some issues with belaying...she goes up while the other person comes down!

Bouldering!

We saw this stop sign on the way back from rockclimbing and we had to turn around so we could take a picture.

Next, we went down to the Hare Krishna temple in Salem for the Holi Festival of Colors! It was awesome! Basically you get a bag of colored powder and throw it at people!

She started it.

We went into the temple and there was tons of people dancing, and these people were chanting.

These girls were way into it! I loved seeing these people express their beliefs by being happy and having a huge boisterous festival! And sharing the experience with other people! It was awesome.

This is my friend Rachelle. She's pretty much amazing.

There was this canopy at the bottom with this "rock" band that was jammin' to the Krishna chant. It was awesome. Yes, those are shoes.

To top off the day we went to Michael's apt and had a Tim Tam Slam! Rules: You suck up hot chocolate through a western family mint chocolate cookie (substitute tim tam) and then quickly flip it into your mouth before the cookie falls apart (no hands). It was so funny!

Natural clumsiness meets tim tam slam! I was having a hard time sucking up the chocolate so I kept tilting the cup forward to get to it. I didn't really stop to think about the possible consequences! I love how colorful we all are! It looks even funnier inside a white-walled apt.

Skye borrowed Michael's boots. We noticed that the sole of his foot is as big as her tibia. So...

We played a little dress-up.

Dinner Time!!!

The fact that there is only one high chair at grandpa and grandma's house has become a bit of a problem as they get more and more grandkids. Not to worry though, Afton found her own solution!

Good Morning Sunshine

Well, it is now 3:21 in the morning and I am finally ready to go to bed! My day went something like this: Go to school at 8:00, go to work right when I get back from school at 3:00, work until institute at 7:00, go straight to the library and work on lesson plans till they kick me out, come home and work on lesson plans some more. I just finished making a math jeopardy game for my kids tomorrow. It took me a good four hours to do! And I spent a couple of hours on my phonics lesson plan before that...and I'm planning on throwing together my writer's workshop lesson in the car while we're driving to Mapleton...and come up with some kind of plan for guided reading while the kids are doing their D.O.L....my mentor teacher decided it would be a good idea for me to have a couple of days completely in charge of the classroom. Hopefully I can make the homerun stretch on two hours of sleep! So, why am I wasting your time griping? Well, I'm hoping that in a few years I'll look back on this post and laughingly say, "remember, back in the day, when it took me four hours to make a lesson plan I can now throw together in ten minutes..." Sigh.

Happy Birthday Matthew!!!

Last Saturday we had a big one-year-old birthday party for Matthew. It was a blast! Ricky's sisters made him this gigantic cake and cute little cupcakes for everyone else. Mason was obsessed with the cupcakes. Brooke insisted he had to eat at least three bites of soup before he could have one, but Mason only had eyes for one thing. Instead of eating his soup he just sat at the table for a solid hour staring at the cupcakes, or "pancakes" as he called them, with his hand on his cheek, saying, "hmmmm, let's see..." It was sooooo funny! This kid is hilarious!

Brooke would not let him eat any without eating something for dinner. She tried bargaining for a roll, and finally a handful of chips, but he was not going to back down! In the end grandpa won him over by dipping his chips in ice cream.

Grandma and Grandpa gave Matthew and Afton matching books. These books are awesome! I'm not going to lie, I have a tendency to stop and play with them every time I have to walk through the bookstore.

I love my adorable nieces and nephews!
